Help Is Just Around the Corner

Find quick solutions for controls, saved scores, mobile play, and common browser issues.

Quick Troubleshooting

  1. Refresh the page. This restarts the game and resolves most temporary display or input issues.
  2. Click the game board. Keyboard controls work best after the page has focus.
  3. Check your keys. Use the arrow keys or WASD. The game intentionally prevents direct backward turns.
  4. Try another browser. A current version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge should run the game smoothly.

When a Snake Game Does Not Start

If the play button does not respond, first reload the page and wait for the board to appear fully. Browser extensions, strict script-blocking settings, or an outdated browser can prevent the small amount of JavaScript required by the game loop. Try a private window or another current browser to determine whether the issue is limited to your usual setup.

If movement starts but arrow keys do nothing, click or tap the game area once so the page has focus. On mobile, use a clear swipe or the four visible direction buttons. Remember that the game ignores a direct reverse turn by design; when moving right, for example, left will not be accepted until you turn up or down first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is my best score stored?

Your best score is stored in local browser storage on the device and browser you are using. PlaySnake.co does not receive that score, attach it to an account, or publish it on a leaderboard.

Why did my best score disappear?

Your best score can disappear if you clear site data, use private browsing, switch browsers, or play on a different device. The score is local to that browser, so it does not travel with you automatically.

Can I use WASD controls?

Yes, desktop players can use WASD or the arrow keys to control the snake. On phones and tablets, use swipe gestures or the visible direction buttons below the board for clearer input.

Why can I not reverse direction?

The game blocks instant reverse turns because they would send the snake directly into its own body. To move back toward the previous lane, turn through another direction first and leave enough space.

Does the game work offline?

The game logic can run without an account or remote leaderboard once the local page files are available. Fonts, first loading, and deployed hosting behavior still depend on how the site is served or cached.

Is this Google Snake?

No, PlaySnake.co is an independent browser Snake game and guide site. It is not affiliated with Google, although the gameplay will feel familiar to people who enjoy Google Snake and classic apple Snake games.

Why is there no sound?

Game sound starts only after a user action because browsers often block audio that plays automatically. Start the game, then use the music-note button to enable or mute the small gameplay sounds.

Privacy at a Glance

No account

You can play immediately without registering or sharing personal details.

Local score

Your personal best remains in your browser rather than on a remote leaderboard.

No game uploads

Your moves, routes, and individual runs are not sent anywhere by the game.

Browser and Device Compatibility

PlaySnake.co is built with standard HTML, CSS, canvas, and a small amount of JavaScript. A current desktop or mobile browser should be enough; there is no app, account, or plugin to install. The layout adapts to smaller screens, and touch players can choose between swipes and visible direction controls.

Performance problems are most often caused by an older browser, an unusually strict extension, or many resource-heavy tabs running at once. Close unnecessary tabs, reload the page, and choose slow speed if movement feels difficult to follow. If a problem continues, include the exact browser and device in your support note so it can be reproduced accurately.
